Established by the Down Town Charity Trust in 2010, Assam down town University (AdtU) is one of North East India’s leading universities offering its students a unique amalgamation of professional and academic excellence. Being the largest educational group in Assam, AdtU has on its rolls 4000+ students and more than 300+ faculty members. The university has a state-of-the-art campus in Guwahati located on 80 acres of land. The trust established AdtU with the focus on bringing excellent educational facilities in the north eastern region of the country at affordable costs.

About the Erudite Chancellor

The prominent personality behind the success of AdtU is Dr. Narendra Nath Dutta, the Chancellor of the university. He earned his MBBS under Gauhati Medical College in 1965, standing 2nd in the University. Standing 1^st, he completed his Master Degree in ENT from All India Institute Of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1970. Dr. Narendra has been awarded with the British Common Wealth Fellowship in 1981 for Higher Studies in Microsurgery, in the UK. He has also been awarded the Fellowship Of International College Of Surgeons in 1982.

Financial Support

The university not only provides brilliant educational facilities, but also takes initiatives to support the students in need. It offers a variety of scholarships including the following:

1. a) Entry level scholarships: These are applicable based on the marks of the entry level            examination like SEBA/CBSE/ISC and so on.  AdtU offers these scholarships as           percentage discount on the semester fees on every subsequent semester, subject to        them being able to maintain a certain academic performance as laid out by the
2. b) Result scholarship: These are provided to the toppers of the respective university’s annual or semester examinations. The scholarship can be up to 50% of the semester subsequent          to the one in which the result was scored. It is given for the subsequent fee installment.
3. c) 100% merit scholarship: The university offers these scholarships to the meritorious            students from relatively economically backward families. The scholarship can be up to       100% and is decided case-to-case basis, by a special committee appointed by the
4. d) In-house student scholarship: Admission fee is waived for all in-house students who want            to study further in the university.
5. e) AdtU also provides 100% scholarships for BPL candidates and Govt. sponsored students.

Significant Achievements

Throughout its excellent journey of imparting brilliant educational facilities, AdtU has accomplished many noteworthy landmarks. Some of them have been mentioned below:

1. AdtU has reached milestones with the receipt of NAAC accreditation and ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System certifications. It is the first university of the north eastern region to get ISO 9001:2015 QMS Certification.
2. In 2018, the Department of Bio-Technology GOI funded the research project entitled “Foldscope a Tool for Evaluation of Genotoxic Effect of food Preservatives”: a model experiment for undergraduate students under the Faculty of Sciences. A total of 445 schools/colleges/universities/institutions within and outside the North Eastern Region have taken part in the project.
3. The university has set up a 200kWp solar rooftop power plant in its campus to leverage the multiple benefits of energy conservation, learning, training, and research opportunities for students and also in achieving the clean and green campus goals.
