The state government of Karnataka has agreed to reinstate the midday meal programme, giving relief to lakhs of kids in government and state-aided schools. The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) halted the programme following the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns about the spread of coronavirus. Currently, instead of a prepared dinner, pupils are given dry rations.
Beginning October 1st, the schools will be able to operate at full capacity. “We are also looking to resume serving the midday meal, decision about the same will be made shortly,” said BC Nagesh, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education.
